Dr. Bhoyar is a well known person in the field of Solid Waste Management. He is having more than 35 years of experience in Solid Waste Management field starting from sampling of solid waste, characterization, collection, bioprocessing and disposal to the research & development. He has served for the Indias only environmental engineering institute NEERI for more than 30 years and headed the Solid Waste Management Department. He retired from the post of Sr. Assistant Director and continuing his services in Solid Waste Management. He is specialised in Sanitary landfill design and compost reforming. He has headed large number of consulting assignment in field of Solid Waste Management and worked for various government agencies including central pollution control board, Ministry of Environment & Forests, and Multilateral landing agencies including World Bank, Asian Development Bank, USAID etc. Some of his assignment includes:

His responsibilities include field visits, and collection of relevant data, sampling MSW, selection of appropriate methods for chemical analysis viz., organic parameters like cellulose, hemi-cellulose, pectin etc. of MSW and preparation of technical reports.
Specific tasks include Development of methodology for isolation of human intestinal parasitic or from MSW samples, Development of appropriate approach for aerobic composting as well as phase separation biomethanation of MSW, Development of methodology for monitoring landfill gas emission from disposal sites, Enhancing biodegradability of biogenic organic fraction of MSW
In addition to solid waste management main focus is for bioprocessing of various types of solid waste as well as leachate treatment. Research & development contribution for bioprocessing approach is in the area of composting, anaerobic digestion, vermicomposting. Special involvement includes eco-friendly management of solid waste for Lakshadweep Islands. Development of landfill sites for disposal of solid waste, design of sanitary landfills, Environmental Impact Assessment of Landfill sites, process development etc.
Dr. Bhoyar was deputed to Denmark from August 5, 1985 to October 25, 1985 under the auspices of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) for training course of Industrial Water Pollution and Environmental Control at Water Quality Institute, Denmark.
He has delivered large number of seminars, workshops and lectures on solid waste management. He has published 26 research papers and 5 technical reports on Solid Waste Management.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Project on Development of Site Selection Methodology for Sanitary Landfilling: A Case Study for Bangalore (1999-2002) sponsored by CPCB, Delhi. During the period 1992-2002, as a team leader responsible for coordinating project activities, as a part of scientific activity he has worked for development of sanitary landfilling with reference to bottom liner, capping, leachate treatment, biogas generation from landfills, degradation of MSW within the disposal site, emission of landfill gas. Project on Status of Methane Emission from Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Sites in Nagpur and Adjoining Cities (2000-2003) sponsored by CPCB, Delhi As a Project Leader responsible for design of landfill, monitoring of methane emission from landfill sites, design for the methane collection system, liner design etc. Management of solid waste for megacities of Mumbai and Delhi including environmental impact assessment of Landfill sites Assessment of environmental impacts due to municipal solid waste disposal at Gorai road (Mumbai) for disposal of solid waste (1991), responsibilities includes survey of the disposal site, producing of environmental quality and sire selection. Rapid environmental impact assessment of proposed Rail Car Depot at Khyber Pass, Delhi (2000) responsible for carrying out EIA study for solid waste management at Cat Depot. Solid waste management in Greater Bombay (1994) responsible for sampling, characterization (physico-chemical) and quantification of solid waste. Development of comprehensive waste management system for Lakshadweep Islands (1997) Main contributions in the municipal solid waste management projects were for sampling, characterization (physico-chemical) and quantification of solid waste. Solid waste management in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) area, Delhi, main responsibilities include solid waste planning, assessment of existing conditions, sampling, characterization (physico-chemical), quantification of solid waste, process development, coordinating team activities, liaisoning with client . Study on solid waste management which involves sampling of solid waste, characterization, collection, bioprocessing and disposal Studies on the Effect of Toxic Heavy Metals on Earthworms and Vermicompost sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi (1998-2001). Solid Waste Management from Food Processing Industries, a project on high moisture and putrescible solid waste entitled sponsored by Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. Since last 10 years, Dr. Bhoyar has been engaged for developing two phase biomethanation of MSW. Project on Management of Solid Waste in 59 Cities (Class I and Class II) sponsored by CPCB, Delhi. Research project on Bioprocessing of various types of solid waste and leachate treatment. Research & development contribution for bioprocessing approach is in the area of composting, anaerobic digestion, vermicomposting. Special involvement includes eco-friendly management of solid waste for Lakshadweep Islands R&D studies on various aspects like biodegradability, humification and nitrification, fate of pathogens and health impact due to disposal of solid waste. R&D contribution in various areas of bioprocessing aspects are : Composting : Conducted studies on composting involving degradation of various chemical constituents of biomass like cellulose, proteins, lignin and starches during aerobic composting. Special research involvement is 'in vitro' cellulose activity during composting in mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures. Composting also encompasses studies on ammonification and nitrification. Biomethanation of MSW : Involved in research for developing biomethanation process appropriate for municipal solid waste in India. Vermicomposting : Carried studies on vermicomposting of biodegradable solid waste, presently engaged in research on influence of toxic heavy metals on the activity of earthworms and vermicompost. In addition to above R&D activities involves in studies on biodegradability of solid waste under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, improvement in the quality of compost. Special contribution is for health aspects of solid waste management.
